Responsible for:
- rigging, unloading, carrying, and tying reinforcing steel for concrete placement
- rigging, unloading, guiding, aligning, placing fastening and all manner of structural steel members to erect structural steel
- inspecting completed work for conformance with specifications, requirements and compliance with applicable building and safety codes and regulations
- cleaning, maintaining, adjusting, calibrating and servicing equipment used in the performance of duties
- maintaining appropriate service and repair records
Ability to:
- build and install iron or steel girders, columns, and other construction materials to form various structures
- erect steel frames
- direct operation of cranes for structural steel, reinforcing bars, and other materials onto and around the construction site
- connect steel columns, beams, and girders
- drill holes into steel for bolts
- number steel according to erection prints
- unload and stage steel
- attach cables to steel and then to the crane
- hoist steel into place in the framework
- position steel with connecting bars and spud wrenches
- check work for quality, conformance to print specification and workmanship standards
- read and comprehend plans and blueprints
- perform physical labor
- follow and give oral and written instructions
- maintain cooperative working relationships
- demonstrate sensitivity to, and respect for a diverse population
Knowledge of:
- thorough knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in industry
- applicable building and safety code requirements
- methods and practices followed in the maintenance of tools, machinery, and equipment
Education:
- high school diploma or equivalent
Experience:
- 5 years of experience working as a carpenter in a commercial, industrial, or facilities operations setting, including rough and finished carpentry
- must possess a valid Wyoming driver’s license and an acceptable driving record
- any additional training or certification is a plus
Physical activities:
- lifting equipment (up to 50 lbs. unassisted)
- bending, standing, climbing, and walking
Able to safely use:
- manual tools and power equipment common in the construction trades
Must be able to handle:
- hazardous materials safely
- tolerate exposure to electrical hazards
- tolerate environmental hazards such as molds and various solvents
